Re: BAD EXAMPLE BY ADULTS

MARY BOGAN (MLBOGAN@MSN.COM)

IN A RECENT ISSUE OF THE SCOUTER MAGAZINE IT WAS STATED THAT AS OF DECEMBER
1996 THAT A CHANGE WAS MADE BY NATIONAL ON SMOKING. IT STATED THAT SMOKING
WAS NOT TO BE DONE IN FRONT OF SCOUTS OR AT ANY EVENT WHERE SCOUTS WOULD BE
PRESENT. BUT THE SECOND STATEMENT SAID THAT A SMOKING AREA NEEDED TO BE SET
UP AWAY FROM AND OUT OF THE SIGHT OF THE SCOUTS FOR THOSE ADULTS THAT DO
SMOKE.

I realize that smoking is not healthy for anyone, i am a smoker trying to quit
and it is hard after so many years. But smokers must realize that our boys in
troops or cubs cannot be around smokers. I am not trying to be santimonious.
But the boys must also realize that when we are trying to keep our selves out
of site that they must also consider our space as well as theirs. I am a
trainer and cannot emphasis enough to leaders new and old that smoking is not
permitted around our scouts. I try to be considerate around any adult who
does not smoke. I go outside it does not kill me and many times waiting for 1
hr. or 1 1/2 hours will not hurt anyone.

this is my first time to respond on the list and i just needed to put my 2
cents in. This is a program for the boys and many times I feel that we as
adults forget that one point.
