G'day all,
here, the Scouts would not have been out of line at all. when you sign up
as a adult, you do so on the understanding that you do not smoke in front
of them. On camps, I have known leaders to quite willingly walk a few
hundread meters to have a ciggerette than do it in front of the children.
All Scout halls here in South Australia are smoke free as well. We are
dealing with other people's kids, not our own (unless yours are there, but
then they should be treated just the same as the others!)
With some of the kids, smoke causes havic with their asthma (More of a
problem with smokers than camp fires) but anyhow, it does cause problems
for some of the Cubs and Scouts. As a aid, my friend died of a asthma
attack which was brought on by a smoker...So, no, I am on the side of the
Scouts (As someone who smoked at high school and quit upon leaving!)
