Tobacco Use

We've had a really fun time with this one. What we've shown is that we
don't really know. I've gotten policies from different councils on smoking.
If it is banned, why the policies, but that is another thread.
The original premise was that the JLT Scoutmaster (who was a district
commissioner) gave a briefing on tobacco use by scouts and the consequences
of the usage of this product since it is illegal. His line in the sand was
that if you break the law, you are done.
We then have the entire example thing which is really open, since we find
out that all of these boys are senior boys (2 eagles and older life scout).
We don't need to go down that road.
But I then started thinking, especially after all the mail, and wondered
what would we do in the Troop if one of our boys was found using an illegal
drug. (I think for a scout, with what has been found, that tobacco, like
alcohol, joins the list of illegal substances). What have we, as leaders,
during a clear head session, decided that we will do?
Call the parents.. wait until we return..call a PLC, make coffee and
think..(I think having a cigarette is probably not a good idea).... Sorry,
the policy mentions smoking, I was using School...I wasn't using snuff I
was chewing Red Man....(gross)..those kind of questions can come up.
As a new Troop (four weeks/22 scouts) we are building those things (policy
and procedures) now. I wonder how many other troops may not have this
addressed. Others probably do, but I'm curious how it is handled.
If people will respond with short capsule of what they have written down,
I'll try to put it together in some type of document for the list!
