A Scout is Tolerant (or should be)

The following was sent to Robert Draper after his regretable
announcement of his departure from the list.
Then I thought of those who MAY benefit from reading it...
<snip>
Robert,
As I presume that most of the nasty-grams you received on this were from
THIS side of the pond, I herein presume to apologise for the classless
actions of a few narrow-minded bigots. (I'm big on presumtions.)
Americans as a general rule are quite provincial and many see little
value in the circumstances of other nations if those do not directly
apply to our own situations. Additionally, many people here, like people
everywhere, have really low tolerance levels for the legitimate exchange
of ideas. They will not accept the existence or discussion of divergent
opinions.
Fortunately for the rest of us, I find that such light-weights are also
possessive of little patience and thus move on to more comfortable
forums where everyone thinks alike. Due to this character flaw, the rest
of the world can proceed apace on the task of improving the
opportunities available for our progeny.
I am sorry that you chose to leave the forum. While it is an entirely
understandable reaction to the unwarranted abuse that you took as a
result of a totally legitimate and important posting, the loss of your
input will no doubt cost us all in the future. The rather dramatic
statement you made upon signing off should certainly give pause to those
who would denigrate the honorable exchange of ideas. We can only hope
so.
YiS,
Doug Roach
