I am a Scout Leader on the east coast of Australia. I have a problem for
which the answer may be found in the United States and I seek your help.

I have been offered ten young unemployed people as trainees to work and train
in Scouting for a year. They will be trained as adult leaders and will also
gain certification as adventurous activity leaders (canoeing, repelling, etc.)
The intention is that they will principally organise and conduct small summer
camps over our 400 mile long stretch of coastline. There will be a lot of other
work to be done which may include straight administration.

We have no real experience in this concentration of activity and I seek
information on professional scouters, district and council organisation and
summer camps. I have already visited the BSA Home Page and have read with
interest, the info on Scouting Careers. Who pays for Scouting and Working with
Volunteers at the Pro's Den?

I have until Jan '98 to get my plan worked out and, as this may require my
resignation from a very secure career, I want to gather as much information
as I can before the point of no return is reached. I would prefer not to but
the
situation in Australia may require that I establish this as a private business.
Scouting in Australia is not sponsored which means that we live on tiny tiny
budgets and the Association probably will employ us as casuals only. Providing
that is, I can get it off the ground on my own. In serving Scouting we will
firstly have to earn our own wages.

I am using my brothers address. He downloads once a week and forwards via
snail mail so my second round of questions may take a week or two.

Thanks for your time.

Yours in Scouting.
Graham Pringle, A/S/L Goonellabah NSW.
