16 Eagles, one Top 10 list

Dave Rogers (DA6ver6@AOL.COM)
Tue, 11 Mar 1997 07:46:48 -0500

Earl S. Hines, the federal magistrate who serves as one of our dozen
Assistant Scoutmasters, asked the 16 new Eagle Scouts of Troop 85 to compile
a Top 10 list a la David Letterman and he read the results as a part of the
keynote address in Sunday's Eagle Court of Honor.

It's a keeper, I think.

TOP TEN REASONS WHY NOT TO BE AN EAGLE SCOUT

10. Scout uniform not a "babe magnet."

9. Outdoor latrines have no walls.

8. Miss the chance to see every facet of Murphy's law in action on a single
Phelan Reservoir campout (fill in your favorite camping disaster here. In
ours, adults had boats falling off trailers, lightning storm had everybody
terrorized, and thoroughly drenched, vehicles got stuck in mud ... you'd have
to had been there, but be glad you weren't).

7. Avoid flack from your friends for missing whatever goes on the weekend of
your campout.

6. Never get to sleep three guys in the same wet sleeping bag.

5. Miss the opportunity to spend two months of each summer in your teen years
applying every antibiotic cream, lotion and spray offered by the medical
world on boils, infections, rashes and poison ivy.

4. Avoid the B.S. from (Scoutmasters).

3. You won't have to make a 7 a.m. campout departure the night after prom.

2. Have more time to run with the Crips and Bloods

And the No. 1 reason Not to Be An Eagle Scout ....

Be like the other 98 percent of Scouts!

Like I said, it was one of the highlights of the COH, and so true. Just
change a few of the names and it can apply to any of our Scouting units, I
believe.
