Re: Co-ed activities

IMHO most boys in the BSA program have never had the experience of
camping and doing program with girls.

We added the Explorer Post as an optionial program opportunity to our
Cadette/Senior GS Troop. The Post has an all female youth membership
(20 this year) ages 14 to 20. We attend District and Council camporees
and events. At first we faced with the usual remarks - "Why are the
Girl Scouts are here?" etc. There were very few negative remarks to our
faces but you know how the grape vine is. That was 4 1/2 years ago.
The girls have been praised by the boys and the adult male leadership
alike for their skills and Scout spirit. At first we had to explain
what Exploring was about. Now we explain why the girls aren't being
taped out for OA.
We (the female adult leadership) believe that our Explorer Post has been
a positive experience for the girls. It hasn't hurt the boys either.
