Troop Job Descriptions (was How Active is... and Eagle Wannabe)

Hutcheson George M (HutchesonGeorgeM@WATERLOO.DEERE.COM)
Fri, 28 Feb 1997 09:01:47 -0600

The more I read the more convinced I am of the need for written
job descriptions for troop leadership positions. They
clarify what the job entails and the Scoutmaster's expectations
_before_ problems develop. It just seems to add something when
the Scout understands the functions and agrees to them before he
starts. Not that they write you into a corner since they are
guidelines; not fine lines between acceptable performance and
unacceptable performance.

I was wondering, how many troops are using some sort of written
job description, either customized or straight out of the
Scoutmaster's Handbook or the Junior Leader Guide?

Also, are your troop leadership positions all elected? Do you
elect just the SPL and PL's and let them appoint the other
positions? Something in-between?

Aw shucks, might as well go all they way. <grin> Who do you
have attend JTL? SPL, ASPL, and PLs only? Other troop
leaders? All troop leaders?

If you don't want to clutter up the list reply privately and I'll
post a summary.

Writing Troop 42-specific job descriptions was one of my ticket
items so that's why I'm interested. Don't need help, just curious.
