Yes, there is a lot of extra expense preparing a Scout for
Jamboree, but it is such a worthwhile experience. I still feel
that sending my son to Jamboree in '85 was one of the best
investments I could have made. He returned with a new view of
Scouting, one that is a world-wide brotherhood, not bounded by
the activities of one troop.
It was his first experience as part of a fully uniformed group,
and it made quite an impression on him. He continue to wear
full uniform through the rest of his Scouting, even though his
troop did not require it.
He went on to finish his Eagle, and has remained registered as
an adult ever since. Scouting is important to him even though
he is not really active right now, and I expect he will
eventually get back into it.
Maybe these things would have happened even if he hadn't
attended Jamboree, but I sincerely feel that it had an impact.
