Our Venture Crew has taken female guests and female leaders backpacking
on the Appalachian Trail. The guests were members of a local Girl Scout
troop. Their leader went along as well as male and female leaders from
our troop. Even our ASM (Venture), who was at best lukewarm to the idea
of camping with females (BSA or GSUSA), admitted that it wasn't a
problem. Provisions had to be made for privacy, but other than that it
was no different. He also said that the boys actually behaved better
with the females along.
