Tiger Program

Well...I don't have the paper in front of me. So, I can't quote. But,
having been taken to the line on this...I know some aspects of the Tiger
program.
Tigers is a school year based program. Meaning that Tigers should be
recruited in the fall, and graduated in the spring. You are NOT supposed to
recruit kindergarteners in the spring. And, they are NOT supposed to go to
daycamp. This is a national policy. If your council chooses to ignore it,
they could be in for BIG trouble. Why? Let's say that one of these
soon-to-be Tigers gets injured. Do you think the insurance is going to
cover a person who isn't supposed to be a scout? The Tiger program has been
changed this year. But, the fact that it is a school based program has NOT
changed. (How this would work at a year round school, one can only
speculate.) If you sign them up for scouting too early, they will run out
of things to do. Already in my pack they have completed twelve of the
seventeen activities. Having meetings twice a month and being integrated
fully into the pack is good for the boys. Rushing them through the program
is NOT good for the boys. The program is set up to run a certain way.
Wolves and Bears can begin work on their new rank at DayCamp. Often they
can get much of their rank work done at camp. Most boys will complete their
rank in February and then can work on arrow points until graduation. Tigers
are allowed to participate fully in the pack, but again they aren't supposed
to be earning belt loops. This too, hasn't changed. Your council may run
their program differently, but this is the information passed down from
National.
