Hi Folks;
I've been away for a bit, but after reading the last few posts on this
subject I have to stick someone else's two cents worth in.
I have the priviledge and honor to know a gentleman Scouter by the name of
Dave Hagee. He joined Scouts back when dinosaur stew was still being made in
dutch ovens. He has about every training and position award that Scouting has
to offer and deserves every one.
He said that he wears all the knots not to impress other Scouters or
Scouts, but to let the boys know that there is progression and learning as an
adult leader as well as for the Scouts. His four rows of knots are a reminder
that the trail never ends.
Be proud of your awards.You don't get those awards just for showing up,
they are for accomplishment. I might further add that a Scouter, alone,
cannot qualify for any of the adult leader awards because others must have
been affected and have progressed because of that adult's efforts for the
award to be earned.
The program is for the boys, but there is no law that we can't have fun
too.
