"There's a snake in my boot!"

That's what I always say when someone pulls my string (comes from the
Toy Story movie).

Blaine Jackson expressed my feelings about girls in Troops could sway
the Scouts torwards my way of thinking when the subject is presented
to the Scouts. Very Good and I agree Blaine. I'll bet your a wonderful
leader.

This all ties in with how much should the adults get involved with the
Scouts and their Scouting activities. It comes down to CHARACTER. I
love the statement "BSA teaches Citizens of Character and Leaders of
Integrity, and they do it with Fun". I wished I said it but I don't
have that much wisdom.

Character is described as the proper way a person acts when nobody is
watching and Integrity is how we perceive that person. How I present a
subject for our Scouts to make a decsision on depends a lot on my
Character. Adults have a way of presenting choices in a way that can
get these younger people or Scouts to choose towards the adults way of
thinking.

We can throw the subject Boy Run around and around but the truth of
the matter is it will be different for all us. God has made us all
different in our thinking. We base much of our thoughts off of
experience and we all differ there too.

That doesn't mean we can't and won't change. The reason I am on
Scout-L is to change. If I was stuck in my way of thinking and thought
I knew the best way, I wouldn't be here. I believe there is always a
better and more fun way. Scout-L is one of the best places I know to
get it. Scout-L has changed a lot of my approaches to Scouting.

I love to hear from proud CMs like Kim Moye, DLs like Cathey Porter,
SMs like Peter Farnham because these people talk about Scouting with a
passion and warmth in their hearts. They have a lot to give.

I am part of one of the best boy run troops in our area. But that's
not easy. Letting the Scouts decided how to wear a uniform or run a
meeting usually goes against the way I would have done it. From the
outside, our troop is not the sharpest looking or the most organized
but we do stick very close to the Aims and Methods of Scouting. Our
efforts are rewarded when we find out that we are one of the most
popular Troops for Webelos to visit. a proud accomplishment
considering we are just now starting are 3rd year.

I have been spending a lot of my time lately towards building the
Charater of the Scouts and one things I have learned is Don't Worry
about the Small Stuff. I have also learned what is small to me can be
very big to someone else.

I try very hard to be a positive person, to give positive advice and
build up people as much as the Good Lord has giving me the power to do
so. I want to help others benefit from Scouting and Scout-L as much as
I have benefited. I am now the Den Leader of 16 Webelos, thats not
small stuff to me, I need and look for help.

Why are we so afraid of thanking the adults. Only the method of
thanking adults can take away from the boys. When I was CM, I thanked
everyone all the time. Adults to. I learned that the whole unit is a
team. We as adults and youth work together to achieve a goal (our goal
is that Charater thing).

Its how you reward an adult that can make the difference for some of
you who feel uncomfortable getting thanks. One of my methods was I
would ask the Scout to invite his parent infront of the group. Then I
would give whatever gift or trinket to the Scout to give to his
parent. The Scouts love this and so does the parent. We were thinking
of the Scout first but we also were thinking of the parent because,
well they are part of Our Team. Our "Mighty" Pack has a great team.

I don't think there is a wrong way of doing Scouting but there is
always, always better ways. For you who tire of these long boring
subjects, wait until we spend three months on coffee. Don't ask. Have
patience because the rewards of the wisdom, advice and experience you
get on Scout-L is a gold mine you will find nowhere else. And if you
feel you must respond, remember the BSA Scout Law.
