Good News X 2

Koval, Ric (ric_koval@MS1.MANKATO.MSUS.EDU)

To the list:
After a week of troubles including blowing up a car (well, not =
literaly. It died after 198,500 miles.) and having to buy another. I =
thought I'd take my wife to our District Dinner, last Sunday evening. =
After my part of the program (a discription of slides of our EXPO '96) =
and the slides of a Philmont trip by another Scouter, they moved into the =
award segment. Well after listening to about a third of the nominating =
naration for the first of two, and wanting to meet that fellow, I finally =
realized that it was ME!!! Having absolutely NO clue, I was stunned to =
say the least. My wife played the part and got me there and came to her =
first District function (other than bringing forgotten stuff to =
Camporees, etc.) and enjoyed my "gotcha" immensely.
Then, after calling my mother (blush!) to tell her the good news, I =
got a call from a Wood Badge Staffer friend who asked me to be on this =
years Viking Council (Mpls. MN) Wood Badge staff!!! WOW!!! (And, with a =
lot of work, a good old Staffer, too!!!)
I must thank you of SCOUTS-L who helped me with your inspiration, =
motivation, information, and cyber-friendship. To many of you, like Maj. =
Mike Walton, Gary Hendra, Steve Tobin, Big Ed and many others who have =
inspired us all, I owe part of these fortunate happenings. Without the =
"roundtable that never ends" I would not have had the resources and =
support that I have used since I joined, to help the Scouts and Scouters =
in my council. The SCOUTS-L archives, and the archives on the web pages =
of many of you, I have downloaded, used and shared with many leaders here =
though the SMF courses I've been involved with. The debates and sharing =
of opinions on many threads have helped me to crystallize my thoughts and =
opinions through knowledge not just emotional judgments. I value the give =
and take and enjoy being able to occasionally contribute.
I will continue to warm myself by the virtual campfire, and look =
forward to the time when some of us can meet. !!*THANKS*!! again...Ric...

I will not follow the path...
I will make my own way and I will leave a trail...
