First, I want to say thanks to all the great contributions I have seen on this
list. You all have made my job so much easier with ideas and resources.
Mark Phillips wrote that scouting should be fun.
I am also spending a lot of time trying to make the pack meetings more
fun. I am using a lot of the standard cheers, jokes, and run-ons.
I am also trying to get the cermonies more spectacular. This is my
first year as CM, second in Scouting (My son is a bear). I have been
searching the internet looking for ideas for the pack meetings and the events.
If anyone has any words of wisdom or resources you found particularly
useful in your experience, I would appreciate it. I go to all roundtables,
powwows and any training that my district offers.
I am looking for particular items that people have found that work well.
I think we would all benefit from sharing as I have already have, many times
over.
I personally have found the CubMaster minute to be great. The person that
does our meeting program calls it Mark's Minute. I took a story telling class
at powwow and am trying to make it fun/interesting as well as maybe learning
something. The best so far was about the man who had said something mean
about a friend and asked the wise man how he could take the words back.
The wise man told him to empty the feathers from a pillow on top of a hill.
When he completed the task he asked the wise man what was next, and the
wise man told him to go collect the feathers, to which he responded that
it was impossible. I then gave each boy a feather to remember the story.
Hopefully, a couple of them understood. This story came across the list
last year.
Thanks again,
YiS,
Mark Schiffner
