I watched this program with my two sons (one an OA member, one not). All
three of us enjoyed the program. Neither my older son nor I found it
offensive. I though the satire was very mild, and that the story
actually made one or two good points.
I told my sons that I was sure that there would be some Scouts and
Scouters who would find the program very offensive. From reading posts
from various sources, that has been confirmed.
My E-mail comes from a varity of lists, etc., but is mostly about
scouting. After reading a post from someone was offended by the TV
program, the next post I read from a scouting source included the
following (paraphrased):
"How cold was it?"
"It was so cold that the lawyers had their hands in their own pockets."
If the humor on "King of the Hill" was objectionable, can anyone explain
why the joke above is appropriate for a scouting discussion?
[NOTE: Yes, I am a lawyer. I think both are funny. I tell lawyer jokes
all the time.]
