Car wash; Scout Sunday

Bob Nix (BOB_NIX_at_PO.MCOA2.CONE@MOSESCONE.COM)
Tue, 4 Feb 1997 08:42:24 -0500

A couple of observations, from yesterday's digest:

1. Car wash. Ours is free; the Cubs solicit pledges from friends and
family - say, $0.05 per car. When you multiply $0.05 times 5 pledges
per Cub times 100 Cubs times 150 cars, you raise $3750. We have 100
Cubs almost every year, and generally wash between 125 and 200 cars.
Run the numbers; a free car wash raises more money than a paid car
wash.

2. Scout Sunday. Officially, Scout Sunday is almost always on the
first Sunday in February. We hit a fundamental conflict, as the first
Sunday of the month is Communion Sunday throughout our entire
conference (Western North Carolina Conference, United Methodist).
This may be a national issue; I don't know. Therefore, we always move
Scout Sunday to the second Sunday in February. Note that Girl Scout
Sunday is always in March, with a separate Church service. This
Sunday, we will run a full Scout service: 3 Boy Scouts and 3 Cub
Scouts reading or leading, Scout ushers, Scout Color Presentation,
Eagle Scout (our youth minister) preaching.

ago, at founding, named us after John 3:16. YIS.)
