We have one called the "100 degrees of Frost award" It is earned by
camping at temperatures below freezing during one winter camping season
(e.g., Fall 96 thru Spring 97). The cumulative total of lowest actual
temperature (degrees F below freezing) for all camping days must reach 100
to earn the award. (e.g, January campout day 1, lowest temperature 10
degrees f.; day 2 14 degrees f.; ergo, total "points" for two camping days
is 22 for the first day and 18 for the second day for a combined total of
40, so the camper still needs 60 points at future campouts to earn the
award.
It helps to have a "recording" thermometer that shows the lowest and
highest temperatures reached on the campout, since the lows are often at
the "wee small hours" of the morning.
The award is a silver mylar embroidered emblem with "wintery" logos and
design and is popular with the Scouts as an incentive to do winter
camping.
