(fwd) Religious Emblems

Richard Sullivan (rj.sullivan@UKONLINE.CO.UK)

Recently I was stumped at a Roundtable by a Unit leader who
posed the following: =20
"We are a civilian Cub Scout Pack in London (Yep, London
England as in United Kingdom) without affiliation to the Military
chaplain services. We have Cubs who are working on their Parvuli Dei
awards with their local British Roman Catholic Pastor. The (British)
priest can't find any information on how to order these American
awards. What do we do?" Our navy Chaplain was also stumped.
I asked the question of the list and got directed to the NCCS
(National Catholic Conference on Scouting) and received the following:

as I find something out. However that doesn't at this time appear to
likely.=20
We are having our annual Committee Meeting and Executive Board
Session starting the week of April 7, 1997. If I have not come up
with a solution before then it will be an agenda item for my committee
and we will have a resolution of some type after that.
As far as the boys are concerned, do not prevent them from
working on the program. If they wish to work on the Light of Christ
or the Parvuli Dei and meet the requirement let them do it. This
program normally takes 3 to 4 months to complete, so by the time they
have finished the emblem we will have a resolution to this problem.
The review for these two emblems is conducted by their pastor and he
seems willing to work with the boys so I do not see any problem there.
If they complete the emblems and review before the National Committee
reaches a final solution we will work something out. For the other
two emblems (Which you have not mentioned) the Ad Altare Dei and the
Pope Pius XII these require a review by a diocesan board of review. I
do not know how this would be handled but that will definitely be
discussed in Sacramento.=20

An so my fellow American (Scouter)s I say to you, "Thank you
Bob and Carol Oldenowski and John Hammerschmidt, and Mike Bowman, and
ALL the others who replied with good solid information and facilitated
the foregoing responses. Golly, I sure do enjoy this Scouting stuff.
On behalf of the Scouts in London, Thank you all.
