Well said, Patrick! We cannot allow those on the "dark side of the force"
to intimidate us. The internet is clearly the most revolutionary step in
communications probably since the invention of radio and telephony.
Empowering youth to avoid or otherwise deal with those who would harm them
is time very well spent. Living in fear of the perceived threat has no
merit, and although it is well known that pedophiles are very clever and
calculating, there are still better ways to thwart their clandestine
intentions.
Many hazardous situations for youth can be either avoided or
countermanded by providing effective training and knowledge for the youth,
and is where our efforts should be concentrated. We will not always
succeed, but we surely must make a better effort than is currently being
made.
We have pictures and first names of our Explorers on our web page, and of
course do not list addresses, or phone numbers, but would not do it any
other way, because the Explorers choose to have it that way, and so it
shall be.
