Balooning and Safe Scouting Unapproved Activities in BSA

G'day folks,

Saw this thread come up and thought I'd enter my own $0.02 worth.

Here in Australia, most forms of "conventional" flying (which does include
balooning) is an approved activity. While I have never ad the opportunity
for a trip myself - I would love to go up, and plan to one day.

What level of flying is acceptable for other Cubs, here it is appropriate
for gliders, powered craft and balloons (under certain conditions).

I find to keep kids in Scouting and out of military youth organisations we
need to be a little more adventurous in what we allow in our programme.

I have now set a precedent for Cubs to learn to snorkel, and plan to take
them to an indoor rock climbing wall - what will they do in Scouts I know
many will ask - these are only introductory type things, that makes a
boy/girl look forward to joining hte Scout Troop so more freedom in what
they do will be available.

TTFN
