Don,

The page in question does not include any Scout names or addresses.
The fact that there are pictures of the boys in their Cub Scout uniforms
with their leaders in the shot bothers me not at all. If there are
wackos out there who will be able to use THIS or any Scout website to
perform their nefarious deeds, then there would seem to be little hope
left for our civilization and we may as well pack it in. The boys are
MUCH more vulnerable walking to school than showing up in a grainy GIF
on the Internet.
We have, previously on this forum, pretty much agreed to keep the boy's
complete names off websites. However, to deny use of this technology to
Packs and Troops as a tool for spreading information, recruiting new
members, teaching the boys the technology, or just keeping the community
informed about the activities of our organization, there are few outlets
more effective or fun for the boys than a web page. And a web page
without pictures is BORING. (Our own Troop's page is a good case in
point.)
>From the look of the parents and leaders on the page in Cairo, one has
to presume that THESE boys are OFF-LIMITS to those cowardly elements
that would wish them harm. :-)

I would rather use the values and skills of Scouting to prepare our sons
for the world instead of hiding them from it.

By the way, when did National forment a policy about internet use by
Packs and Troops? Did I miss that? Last I heard, (with the exception
of a home page last year), the powers in Texas still pretend it doesn't
exist.
