I have staffed several courses and directed two. The syllabus stresses
maintaining the
time frame and schedule, but also indicates that when learning is taking
place, it may
be wise to continue rather than cut it off just to stay on schedule. For
this reason,
we have several times, "adjusted the clock", revised the schedule (Senior
Patrol
Leader's call), or just plain explained what is going on so that the
learners understood
the reason for the change.
During the 3-4 staff development weekends, we examine the schedule in
detail and make
changes in time frames (mostly minor) based on experiences in past courses,
the size of
the troop, the time of year (Standard Time or Daylight Saving and whether
it will change
during a course weekend), and any other pertinent factors. Other than
these changes, we
stick to the syllabus as required. These small changes make the course run
smoother and
do not hairlip the Area Wood Badge Coordinator.

JimT
