Re: Blanket Permission Slips

There are two types of forms I am aware of: One for the leader(s) to send to
Council, one for the parents.

Regarding the Council form, I believe there is a generic overall outing form
in the Scout Leader guide, as well as one for permission. ( I'm at work and
don't have my copy handy to check.) During my orientaiton training, I was
told several times to get an overall form for each separate outing, because
this is the only way to have Scout-paid insurance coverage for THAT trip
only. The District also wants to keeep track of outings for a variety of
purposes (do the drivers have insurance, appropriateness of the outing,
travel record, statistical analysis, etc...). They are not being nit-picky
about it. The overall trip description can be faxed to Council as a way of
obtaining coverage.

About parent permission slips, I don't know if they are mandatory for each
separate trip or not, but we use a parent permission slip given to us at
Roundtable. (If your not attending a Roundtable, you're missing out on great
info!!!!). The slip must be for each separate outing. This avoids confusion
as to whether or not a scout actually has permission for each trip. No
parent can say they would not have let their boy go if they knew ________
(fill in the blank). We also want the parents to be as involved and
knowledgeable about the individual activities as possible. A blanket form
for the year makes them less pro-active, and our Pack is too small for
non-involved parents.

Just my $ .02. Hope this helps.
