Mike...I have a problem with this thinking. I will have no problem with this
requirement for a few years. I rechartered with three scouts last March, and
am currently at eight. I am recruiting as hard as I can among local packs,
and the scouts are recruiting their friends. I hope to be around 15-16 next
year, and eventually grow to 25-30.
At that point, I will need to stop recruiting so hard. I will never turn a
boy away, but I don't want to have too big a troop. Our meeting hall will
hold about 30 boys, maximum. Once I get there, growth has to stop, no matter
what national or the council says.
What do they really want? Am I supposed to find a new sponsor? Overcrowd my
meeting hall? Plan "split" campouts so everyone can go? Grow to 50, 75, 100,
150? Why don't they do their job of starting up new units, instead of
expecting leaders to grow unrealistically large troops?
