a different Happy Birthday Song

John Kasper (jkasper@NETTEN.NET)

Happy Birthday
Tune: Volga Boat Men

Chorus:

Happy Birthday, Ugh.
Happy Birthday, Ugh.
Ha-a-a-a, Happy Birthday, Ugh.

verse:

Pain and sorrow in the air,
Death around us everywhere.
But...?
chorus

One year closer to the grave,
Think of all the food we'll save
But...?
chorus

Easter Bunny broke his leg,
Bled all over the Easter Eggs,
But...?
chorus

Santa Claus wrecked his sleigh,
No more presents on Christmas day.
but...?
chorus

I heard this at National Camp School this summer and it was a big hit when
I did it at summer camp. Quite morbid, but so different that everyone
enjoyed it. During the last week of camp, it was the most requested camp
song. Had to start verifying actual birth dates.

The chorus is definately the old 'Volga Boat Men' tune and I'm not sure
about the verse. At the last of the verse the 'but' is sung with a
questioning voice, which directs the attention back to the birthday victim.
Everybody joins in on the 'ugh'. I usually use the 3rd and 4th verses as
it gets too long if you do them all. When you have to perform this one
severla times a week, its good to have some spare verses anyhow. Required a
nice deep voice.
