I am flabbergasted, utterly and totally floored, I thought Scouting was
aimed to promote friendship, understanding and brotherhood.
To be honest a leader like this in my Group would be an ex-leader - the
rest of the message describes a situation I work with ALL the time, it is
time to promote the kids self esteem and self value - after all is that not
what Scouting is about? The Group I am involved in has a rate of 1 in 10
kids come from a stable home environment, in my years as a scouter I have
dealt with kids like this - one in particular has risen above his
situation, and with the self worth we (hopefully) helped him develop, saw
him attend college and is a highly respected computer programmer.
This kid was worse than the situation illustrated - but we put up with him,
didn't kick him out, and slowly he developed.
Oh yeah the kid got his Queens Scout (an Eagle) - if he'd been in the troop
discussed - he'd be out.
Sorry, this really gets to me, some kids just need a lot of understanding.
