I have some doubt if any legal claim to the term "Boy Scout" or "Boy
Scouts" could be enforced at this point. Other terms, such as BSA and the
BSA emblem would probably still be protected by the courts.
the term "boy scout" has taken on a popular meaning and been promoted
commercially by others, as in the movie "The Last Boy Scout" in ways that
may make the legal claim unenforceable for lack of sufficient attempts to
legally protect the term. I believe that the term "Kleenix" has also lost
its protected status.
I am not a lawyer, and sometimes the status of a term like this depends
upon the court which has jurisdiction over a particular case at the
time....
