Re: Advancement project

Ed/Evie/Cindy Gibson (egibson@MOOSE.NCIA.NET)
Fri, 22 Nov 1996 22:21:18 -0500

I have been sitting in the background for quite a while and have
not introduced myself. I'm Ed Gibson. I have been involved in Scouting
for 10 years, starting on the Pack Comm. 3yrs as cubmaster, a year as
Webelos Den Leader and justed stepped aside after 6 yrs as Scoutmaster.
I used to be a Beaver earning my beads last fall (our patrol agreed that
we would all receive our beads at the same time, and we did). In my
other life, I have been an electrical engineering consultant for the last
20 years.
We have a Scout in out Troop who can not hold an office becouse
of lack of support at home. He can not be counted on to make meetings
becouse his parents either cann't or won't bring him to meetings. When
the roads are good it is a 20 to 25 min. ride each way. We are now
starting into 'ice season', followed by 'snow season' and driving is not
always the best. Under the requirements for advancement there is listed
an option for leadership without an elected (or appointed) office. "or
carry out a Scoutmaster assigned leadership project to help the Troop"
Our new Scoutmaster has asked me to ask you for your help. He
does not have access to a computer or the net. What type of a project
would fit this description? The Scout involved is now star and the boys
in the Troop, as well as the Troop Com., know about his problem. He does
not live within 15 miles of anyone else in the Troop. He was elected SPL
and stepped down becouse he could not make the meetings.
Thanks for your help.

Sincerely,

The Gibson family (Ed, Evie, Cindy, Lady, Galileo, and Moondrop)
