Re: Help with Program Helps

I'm a new den leader and am having trouble deciphering the November
program helps ("Cub Scout and Webelos Scout Program Helps:1996-1997", cubs
2nov96, Ancient Greece). I don't see the connection to achievement 10 or
elective 6. Am I being to strict in my interpretation or is BSA being too
lenient? A game and a book is definitely involved in the theme but aren't the
achievements more specific?

Dear Edward,
The connection is a bit hazy at first glance, but look at the Pack Meeti
ng as
a Family activity. Perhaps the boys have made some of the equipment to be
used. Maybe the stilts. Wolf boys are definitely going to need a parents
help to walk on them. And Mom or Dad's demonstration of how can be just as
hilarious. The first den meeting has the leader using a book about ancient
Greece. This can be the first step in encouraging the boys to go to the
library and find more books about the theme. Although these activities are
not spelled out, they can be incorporated and That is what I think they are
getting at in the "This Theme Helps..." column.
