We had been discussing the potential for harm to the scouts if we list their
names on a web page. From everyhting that I have heard, no one hase been able
to explain to me how the "Listing" itself could be damaging. If we listed E-
Mail address of the scouts, or allowed the scouts to use chat rooms on troop
accounts then we do have a potential risk here. However, if a scout meets
someone in a chat room or from e-mail that they are using at home, then this
becomes in my opinion more of a parental supervision concern and not a
scouting concern.
Before I get totally flamed, let me also say the our troop is in the misdt of
creating a web page also, and we are going to use only scouts first names,
and no photos. There is still a potential to find a scouts name, and
determine his location throough either the council or district listed on the
web page, or possibly check our a web page calendar and then show up at that
activity, but that is why YP is set up for all scouting acitivities. And
this could happen anyways, without that added information fron the web page.
I hope all this makes sense.
