Well, in Illinois it is (of course) different! Each Council used to get
its own Tax Exempt number and units used it OK. Then the State Dept of
Revenue decided it was simpler to just issue 1 tax exempt number to the
Central Region BSA office (in Naperville, IL) which is now used by all
Councils, and units all over the state.
Check the rules for your state/locality! Each place is different.
