I have a lot of respect for how Stan Pope's group let the boys handle
their cars. I am a big believer in letting the boys do as much as
possible so they get all the fun.

When we ran the races like this, we had several boys break their cars
waiting to race. Also we had a very difficult time keeping the boys
organized enough that they got more than three races during the
evening. They get exicited and start running around or get a hotdog
and so on. We change a little that when the boys checked their cars
in, the Webelos put the cars in padded boxes. The cars were carried
that way until the end of the races. Also buy letting fewer Scouts
carry the cars, our Scouts get between 15 and 20 races.

Now our Bears Scouts can't wait to be Webelos so they can carry the
cars and everyone is excited to watch their car race all night long.

I would like to try Stan's method again because I love for the Scouts
to have as much control as possible. Stan, explain how you guys handle
the races and did you have the same problems we did when we let the
boys carry and race their own cars?
