I work in Military Troops that have a high turnover. Twice a year I run
a game to introduce the boys. It's noisy, active and gets the boys to
talk to each other. It should work at a meeting with adults, I'd time it
though to follow with a social period.
The game is very simple. Without an introduction, I hand each boy a 3X5
card with a number on the front. I tell the boys to write their name on
the front. The back is numbered. I can get 20-25 on the back. Holding
up a prize I announce the purpose of the game, to get the names that
match the numbers on the front of the cards next to the correct number
on the back of the card. First one with all of the names next to the
corret numbers wins. At GO, the place erupts, no one is afraid to ask
"What's your name?" Retention may be a challenge, but the ice is broken
and introductions are made. This really bridges the age gap, with
venture boys actually asking new scouts their names.
I stack the cards in order as the boys finish. I tally the names from
the cards to get the correct order and check to see who won. I give out
the prize later in the meeting.
This game is simple and fun.
