Re: A properly weighted car

Cheryl: "A properly weighted car will beat an improperly weighted
one every time. <G>"

This is a common misconception.

Other things being equal, this is true... but those other things are
seldom equal. My son built a 3.5 ounce car that placed 3rd in the
district races (60 or 70 of the best cars from the district's 4th grade
Webelos.)

Assessment of his Car:
Weight : Fair to poor (only 70% of the limit!)
Weight Distribution: Excellent
Aerodynamics: Excellent
Wheels and Axles: Good
Wheel alignment: Excellent

Did I help? Yes, because it is a joint parent - son project.
Did he do the vast majority of the work? Yes.
Did he participate in all phases of design and construction? Yes.
Did he "research" the car tha I built for the parent's competition? Yes,
the appearance of his car was similar, albeit less polished.
