We are still cleaning up 4 weeks after Hurricane Fran. Approx. 25% of the
trees in the Durham County area were blown down according to an article in
the newspaper the other day.
At our monthly roundtable we will be discussing what the Boy Scouts can do
in the event of another disaster. Scouts in our area were the forgotten
resource.
I know Scouts are not to use power tools (i.e. chainsaws). This question
goes out to the group, "What has your troop or group done in the event of a
disaster in your area?." and second "What can your group offer to the
community in the event of a disaster?"
A few of my Scouts were able to help out with assisting with a water
station and serving ice water to people waiting in line for emergency
assistance at the Dept. of Social services. The troop also provided 5
-5gal water coolers and ice chest for support this effort. Over 5000 cups
of water were served in a 4 day period, this does no include 2nd's 3rd's
etc.....
