Your program seems well organized and active! Good on'ya.
Sure its easier to manage the boys food and money at the highest level,
but efficiency is not the goal, teaching the boys responsibility is.
The program must have the boys handling money, purchasing and planning.
When a patrol is underrepresented, have the boys from a provisional
patrol wit the same rules. The slow reembursment, weak meals and
failures to show up are all part of the program and life. When we
intervene in the boy's program to show them what we have learned from
experience, we deny them the opportunities that taught us so well.
I have been in very small troops, under 12, where practicality must take
over and the patrol method is challenged by attendance. But that is the
exception. I've been in troops that collects annual dues (instead of
weekly), I hated it. If my boys were younger, I'd have found another
troop. The inconvenience is worth the lesson that bringing your $.50 or
$1 provides.
Just my take on things, keep up the great program!
