OA event... at a Pack Meeting?

Stan Pope (StanDCmr@AOL.COM)

I'd like to share with you a special event that occurred at my Pack Meeting
Thursday night, the same place where 10+ years ago, Barb and Billy and I
joined Scouting. Moments before the meeting was to start, two Scouters, one
in native American garb both well known to me, strode in with the command,
"Let there be silence! Stanley B. Pope, come and stand before the Chief!"
The Chief then presented me with an arrow and read from a "parchment"
instructions regarding the test for Vigil Honor in the Order of the Arrow..
Knocked my socks off!

Now, in retrospect, I'm very pleased that they chose that particular location
for the Vigil call out. This is where it began ten years ago. And here is a
room full of Cub Scouts and parents, some attending their very first pack
meeting, who just gotta be impressed with the program's potential. (But what
do we do for their second meeting?)

I retired as CM just over a year ago, but have continued with the Pack on the
Committee. Barb is the Tiger Organizer. Barb and I still attend almost all
of the Pack meetings. My other hat is District Commissioner, from which many
other services seem to grow.

My service to the OA Lodge has been limited by other obligations, but one
service I have performed with regularity: Elangomat. I served as a "speaking
member" of an Elangomat clan during my second Conclave and was sold instantly
on the Elangomat concept. It is great. Try it!

Many other Brotherhood Members of our Lodge have served well and certainly
deserved this honor. Because of them, I feel especiallly honored to have
been selected.
