I have been reading this with interest - and you have to remember that in
Australia we start camping at as young as 8 with no parents around.
I know a Queens Scout (Eagle) who does not like to camp in tents, in fact I
think he has camped under canvas now a total of two nights - of which he
probably got a total of 2 hours sleep - it is just one of those things.
Why must a child who does nto like camping be asked to leave - because an
individual has a problem that we cannot understand or interpret, does that
mean we have to evict that child from an organisation that is designed
specifically for him and help hjim with life skills??
As for the disruptive influence at Scouts - because the child is from a
single parent family, maybe this is the only way he can call out for
attention - take that into consideration.
Scouting is for the children (or in the US - Scouting is for boys), each
child is totally different from each other child, and we have to be able to
be flexible.
Just out of interest I myself shy away from camping if I can, I do it, I
just don't feel very safe in a tent and toss and turn at every whisper of
wind that coems through it.
I have often wondered if I could get a bulk discount and a Cub Camp in a
four star hotel, and would they mind me doing the Grand Howl in the
lobby/foyer of the hotel??
