A final word on P-Trak

Fellow subscribers:
I just recieved a note this morning from an ex-subscriber who tried to help
us, by informing us of the existence of a database that could be used for
illegal purposes. Apparently, the reaction he recieved was so negative that
he has chosen to remove himself from our company. What kind of people do
_we_ think we are?
WE, in the US anyway, go to our Troop meetings, training sessions, and
roundtables where we learn, and usually recite "A Scout is friendly, a Scout
is courteous, a Scout is kind...". But when a member tries to say something
that we disagree with, or correct a warning, we react in ways that are neither
friendly, nor courteous, nor kind. _Shame!_ That we drive away a new
subscriber who was only trying to help. Sadly, I have seen it recently on
other issues than this. Is it a trend? I hope not.
I have learned, in my internet dealings, that "flames" are _never_ the correct
response. Sit back, cool down, and write in the influence of reason, rather
than hot headed retaliation. How many of us, in our Troop meetings, would
allow our Scouts the luxury of "Go away, you stupid ****!" to a new Scout
who saw, or thought he saw, something wrong.
Now, for the record on P-Trak, the message that many of you saw was _bait_,
pure and simple, to get you to write this company and _give_ them what they
_did_not_ have! It is my understanding that they are under investigation by
the Social Security Administration, and other agencies.
If anyone is interested in the specifics, I have the story as is now known.
No, I refuse to mail out to those who recieved the original message. I tried
that _once_ and got burned. If you want it, _you_ call _me_.
Yours in (I think) Scouting,
