As SM for our fall SMF course, I concur with Kevin's post. The BSA syllabus
certainly covers all the basics. It also does not leave a lot of time for
extras. While some customization may enhance the course, any changes should
be based on prior course evaluations and made in consultation with the
council training chair.

Care must be exercised to present the BSA program as published by the
national office. As has been often discussed here on the list, we may have
differing opinions of what may be best, but the training course should
represent the *official* program and not some local or personal
modifications of it. As course director/SM, my responsibility is to present
the BSA program which is standardized from course to course and across the
country. It's not MY course; it's the BSA course. Get a copy of the official
