I too have a large den. We started out with 7 Tigers, and by the Webelos
I year, we numbered 11. I have great help from my asst Den Leader and all
the parents. I'm like the original poster's WDL - the boys and the
leaders get along well and the den runs very smoothly. I give a lot of
credit to the parents - every family is "traditionally functional" and
cooperative. Our pack has traditionally had large dens - our only den
under double digits this year is the Wolf den (6 boys).
This year we have 13 Tiger Cubs. I just had the organizational 1st
meeting at my (small home) Tues. TO keep in line with BSA guidelines, but
most importantly, being concerned with the quantity of people - I got them
to split into 2 dens right off the bat. There were enthusiastic parents
who volunteered to be Tiger Den Coordinators too.
Now, if this Tiger Cub program continues to draw a great number, and if I
continue as Tiger Coach, we can try to arrange for more manageable sized
dens of 6-8 as suggested.
