There's been some discussion about perceived rudeness at Wood Badge
Training. The explanation offered was that this is an example of how not
to treat your scouts. I'm dubious.
We have had the same problem at Adult Leader Training. Perhaps the
intent was to illustrate a bad example. Perhaps, as in the previous
message, once an instructor had been called on it he would have explained
and the rudeness would have ended.
We'll never know. The offended Scouters went home. They'll never go
back. They've shared their experience with lots of leaders who are also
skeptical about training. The damage is enormous.
We talk constantly with scouts about the power of a positive example. We
promise to be "courteous" everytime we say the Scout Law.
Perhaps we should take this principles to heart.
