It may not be that it turns them off so much as that it doesn't turn them on.
I was chatting with a couple of troop leaders as we were waiting to pick up
our Scouts after this summer's JLT course. The conversation got around to
Wood Badge somehow, and they mentioned that there had been some pressure on
them to sign up for this fall's course. They asked me about it, and I tried
to talk around it in the usual manner. I did mention to them that they would
be "Scouts in a Scout troop." Immediately, they responded more positively,
saying, "If they would have just told me that, I would have signed up right
away!"
My #1 ASM & I have been lobbying my #2 ASM & CC to attend this year's course,
and as of this past weekend, they are now an Owl and a Fox. And yes, we told
them about the course, but without telling them about the course....
