Many religious organizations offer awards to adult leaders who
demonstrate over a period of years unselfish service to their
faith, community and Scouting. These awards are by nomination
and governed by rules set by each religious organization. For
most recipients these awards represent a high point in their
Scouting career similar to the Silver Beaver or Silver Antelope awards
given by BSA. The newspaper may have been more correct in saying that
the St. George Award (Roman Catholic, Eastern Rite Catholic, and
Episcopal) is one of the highest honors that can be bestoed upon a
Scouter.
