Jeff,
My second to Woods Wisdom as your best resource to make Scouting fun for the
boys and also for the leaders!
Section IV, Program Specialties, has over 300 games to play which also
teach things about Scouting. Remember, "Scouting is a game with a purpose".
Take a look at Section I, Program Features, to pick monthly themes for your
troop's Annual Program Plan. It also gives weekly troop meeting planning
sheets as well as a planning sheet for the major outdoor activity each month.
IF you follow National's Annual Program Plan, then "Boys Life" and
"Scouting" magazines will have articles and program helps to assist Scouters
and Junior Leaders to execute the monthly theme.
Q: Why would the Troop Committee and the Patrol Leaders Council of a boy
lead troop want to follow National's Annual Plan?
A: Because the planning and resources are provided for you; you only have
to do the local coordination and execution (still alot of work, but you are
not re-inventing the wheel).
Section II gives ideas on Service Projects. Section III contains guidelines
for planning a fun and effective outdoor program. And isn't it the outdoor
program which keeps most boys involved with Scouting? Section V gives lots
of ideas on ceremonies which cover the gamut from Webelos-to Scout
Transition, and simple openings and closings, to Eagle Courts of Honor. No
need to stumble through ceremonies or use the same opening and closing each
week.
Woods Wisdom can help every Scoutmaster and Senior Patrol Leader "Be Prepared".
And that means more fun for everybody.
