Sitting at Roundtables

Folks,
We do provide a babysitter at our roundtables. Often, it is the only way
many busy parents can come. The sitter is one of many teenagers from a very
dedicated scout's family. Sometimes, we have two or three. Who pays for
this, the district pays. The amount is $5 or $10 depending on the number of
children who show up. Although, knowing the family as I do, the children
would be volunteered for free if necessary. I've even paid one to take my
kids to a movie during roundtable. Now, this might be unusual, and be only
because we are a military unit. I know at another district nearby they
don't provide sitting and they get a good turnout. But, they have virtually
no military families, and many of the families are one income where Mom can
afford to stay home with the kids, etc. You have to ask yourself, if it
will make a difference in your turnout. And, then you have to look at where
you can put the children so they will be nearby and still technically under
the parents supervision.
