Scouts at Political Conventions

Up here, in Canada, the french speaking arm of Scout Canada does not allow
any participation of uniformed youths or adults to a political convention.
A scout group was actually excluded from the association a few years ago
after some scouts showed up at a political convention in uniform.

My personnal feeling about this debate is that there are many ways to show
and teach patriotism to scouts and cubs, the flag ceremony being one of
them. But you don't have to participate in a flag ceremony during a
political convention as some people might think the scouts are endorsing a
candidate or a political party; scouts should allways remain politically
neutral.

Scouts should go public on issues concerning youths like drug abuse,
criminality, poverty, education, children abuse, children right, etc. They
should be leaders in their community on these issues. Avoid confrontation,
use education programs.

I guess, from reading the thread, politicians have found a way to bring
scouts to their convention, using the flag ceremony as a bait... Disgusting.
