Alan asked "What else?"
Our Scout Roundtable Commissioner heard about the news coverage on the
death of the bear cub and decided that the best bet was to shift the
emphasis of the next Scout Leader Roundtable to talk about planning and
preparing for trips to National Parks and other areas where interaction
with wildlife is likely. To make this really effective he contacted the
National Park Service and arranged for two rangers from Shenandoah
National Park to talk at the next roundtable. Among other things the
rangers will talk to the Scouters about what National Parks have to
offer. I think that efforts like this can go a long way towards keeping
good relationships with the National Parks and help leaders to know more
about what to expect and a little more about how to deal with situations
in the wild.
