In a message dated 96-08-01 11:45:17 EDT, you write:
<snip> I would like some help from the list regarding who exactly is allowed
to sign off for requirement accomplishment for Tenderfoot thru First
Class.<snip>
Many times someone scribbles their initials in the BS Handbook that the
requirement has been done and then at the SM Conference it is hard to figure
out who or when the requirement has been accomplished.<snip>
How do you do this in your troop?
In our troop handbook advancement is done by uniformed leaders or any junior
leader. The leader completes an advancement sheet that shows the requirement
completed and the scouts who earned it. He signs the sheet and gives it to
the ASM in charge of tracking advancement (ME). At the next meeting I initial
the handbooks and from time to time spot check the scout's knowledge of the
skill. I am the only one allowed to initial the handbook. The advancement
sheet is also used to enter the information on TroopMaster and the sheet is
retained as a permanant record. When the SM does a SC there's no guessing
who's initials are in the handbook and of course the computer printout must
match the handbook.
Doing it this way has solved a great many problems which existed prior to
this system.
